Sanctification

2 Corinthians 3.18“To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father…” – Jude 1 (NKJV)
“…sanctified in Christ Jesus…” – 1 Corinthians 1:2 (HCSB)
“…in sanctification of the Spirit…” – 1 Peter 1:2 (ASV)

How unwise to make preferences in the Persons of the Trinity! To know Jesus as the embodiment of everything lovely and gracious, yet regard the Father as severely just and without kindness. It would be equally wrong to magnify the decree of the Father and the atonement of the Son so as to depreciate the work of the Spirit. Not one of the Persons of the Trinity act independently from the others, they are as united in their deeds as in their essence. They are one in their love toward us. Take sanctification, for example. We would not be mistaken to speak of sanctification as the work of the Spirit, but we need to be careful not to view it as if the Father and Son had no part therein. Sanctification is the work of Father, Son, and Spirit. Elohim said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Genesis 1:26 ESV) Therefore we are, “His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10 RSV) Understanding the value God sets on real holiness we, as disciples of Christ, must also place a high value on holiness—on living a pure life and glorifiying God with our conversations. Let’s start today living in a way that will manifest the work of the Triune God in us.
